Emergency Preparedness Assistant
Purpose of Position:
The Emergency Preparedness Assistant provides vital public safety services to the University community. These services support the mission and purpose of Police and Parking Services. Under Immediate supervision, incumbents in this classification work part-time during the academic periods and may work full time during the break periods. The incumbent will report to the Emergency Manager responsible for University Emergency Preparedness.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Assist in maintaining emergency supply inventory, record keeping and documentation.
2. Assist in maintaining emergency communications equipment (monthly and quarterly inspection and testing), such as the Verizon emergency cell phones, radio equipment, EOC equipment, and lap top computers, etc.
3. Assist with quarterly Satellite Radio testing, GETS card testing and maintenance of system.
4. Attend Ventura County trainings and meetings with other county agencies, including the EOC.
5. Assist in maintaining EOC and Building Marshal Rosters and equipment.
6. Assist with the documentation of hardware and software.
7. Assist with inspection, inventory maintenance and documentation of EOC carts, storage rooms, and Disaster Trailer.
8. Serve as liaison between Police Department and Information Technology Department personnel.
9. Assist with emergency preparedness events such as the annual Emergency Preparedness Fair, Safe Halloween, Community Safety Day and routine emergency drills throughout campus.
12. Use VEOCI-Emergency Management software provided by the Chancellor's Office.
13. Take notes in meetings.
14. Assist with the maintenance of the Business Continuity Plan.
15. Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
1. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
2. Experience with computer functions and familiarity with common software (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
3. Proven ability to be meticulous in attention to detail, self-starter, and most accountable to work independently on projects and tasks with deadlines.
4. Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office.
5. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel and to learn new technologies quickly and thoroughly.
6. Ability to manually manipulate devices and perform upkeep and routine maintenance on electronic devices, and to carry and/or move cases of equipment and carts.
7. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
8. Ability to read, comprehend, follow, and enforce established operational and administrative procedures and regulations.
9. Ability to drive EOC truck and pull trailer.
10. Demonstrated experience in maintaining and being accountable for inventory.
Minimum Job Requirements
1. Undergraduates shall be enrolled for at least 6 units and graduates shall be enrolled for at least 4 units in graduate-level courses.
2. 3.0 Cumulative GPA, be in good standing academically and behaviorally with the Division of Student Affairs.
3. Possession of current valid California driver's license in good standing and ability to become certified through the campus defensive driving course.
4. Computer knowledge and experience highly desirable.
5. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
