Physical Scientist (Recent Graduate GS 9/11)

The USGS Upper Midwest Water Science Center is looking to hire a candidate with experience that can help lead our water-quality studies in our Lansing, Michigan office. The focus would be on nutrients and loads and nutrient data-interpretive studies.

Duties

 

As a Physical Scientist within the Upper Midwest Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Apply theories and principals of water quality to surface water investigations.
  • Apply theories and principals of surface water hydrology to the interpretation of scientific and technical data.
  • Develops methods for applying techniques and modifying such, as required, in the study of local hydrologic or related water resource problems. Awareness of advancement in technology and water resource evaluation.
  • Plans and conducts scientific investigations that address water-quality and quantity in surface waters.
  • Coordinates immediate and long-range study objectives and plans, and the scheduling and establishment of priorities to address important water-resources issues.
  • Prepares reports of findings for interpretive studies, summarizing the results of hydrologic, chemical, and geological investigations.
  • Apply statistical techniques to the interpretation of hydrologic data.
  • Provide leadership in complex water-resources issues.
  • Pursue opportunities for developing new studies.
