Environmental Compliance Intern

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE INTERN

This position will participate in both field and office activities across multiple disciplines, including drinking water treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment, solid waste management, stormwater management, laboratory operations, and pollution control. The Environmental Compliance Intern duties include: Participate in inspections of DPW properties. Assist in formulating environmental reports. Plan, document, and track projects to improve environmental conditions. Examine permits and regulations and interpret how they apply to DPW sites. Review reports, plans, and procedures.

A candidate for the Environmental Compliance Intern position will be well-served by the following competencies: Knowledge of the principles of environmental regulation. Knowledge of specific regulations related to water, wastewater, stormwater, land management, and laboratory operations. Knowledge of the processes of water treatment, wastewater treatment, and stormwater management. Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through speech and writing. Ability to collaborate and work effectively with others.

This position requires the ability to interpret information regarding the physical, chemical, and biological processes involved in utility operations. Previous educational experience in environmental engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or a related field is required. This position requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
