Position Summary

The intern gains exposure and experiences in public health informatics and project management through participation in the activities of the Datapult team. The intern will work with the Deputy Director to provide support for a variety of tasks. The main duties will be to provide meeting support, prepare written materials, maintain thorough project management documentation, and draft/send email communications.

 

The successful intern brings the attitude and skills necessary to support the delivery of public health informatics-related services across Datapult’s priorities and initiatives, with special emphasis on communications and documentation.

 

The intern will be involved in the recording of meeting minutes and preparation of reports, maintenance of correspondence, monitoring of schedules, scheduling and implementing meeting logistics.

 

The ideal candidate possesses an eagerness to develop exposure to public health informatics topics, project management and/or communication skills. The intern reports to the Deputy Director.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the Deputy Director to support the activities of Datapult
  • Attend calls and meetings related to Datapult priorities and initiatives
  • Gain exposure and build familiarity with Project Management principals, including scope and schedule management, documentation, and risk/issue management
  • Support the coordination of system integration and semantic interoperability activities, including having an interest in learning more about the use of Health Level Seven (HL7) standards and other terminologies such as FHIR, LOINC, SNOMED CT, ICD, CPT4, RxNORM, CVX, and UCUM
  • Undertake research and develop a working understanding of public health electronic laboratory reporting (ELR), data interoperability, data harmonization, and public health-related genomic sequencing, and next-generation sequencing tools
  • Prepare meeting minutes, summary notes, and status reports under the guidance from the Deputy Director
  • Develop draft stakeholder communication both internal and external to APHL (e.g., email notifications, one-pagers, white papers) under the guidance of the Deputy Director
  • Assists in the coordination of the APHL/Datapult Help Desk by providing Tier 1 base level support to clients, customers and members, including providing FAQ and basic knowledge base information as well as assisting in the triage of incoming requests
    • As knowledge increases, assist in providing Tier 2 level support
  • Supports program conferences, in-person meetings, teleconferences and other projects by:
    • Providing online and in-person meeting logistics and support (e.g., agenda preparation and materials development)
    • Capturing as well as transcribing meeting minutes from in-person meetings and teleconferences.
    • Assisting in production and distribution of handouts, folders, posters, graphics, presentations, marketing materials, and proceedings
  • Organizes and maintains own paper and electronic files to complete work in an organized fashion
  • Assist with and completes other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s degree and currently enrolled in a Masters degree program in Public Health, Health Informatics, or related field;
  • Excel at working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment;
