Environmental Sanitarian 1

The State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health (DPH), is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Environmental Sanitarian 1 (Temporary). This position will work in the Department of Public Health's Environmental Health and Drinking Water (EHDW) Branch under the Food Protection Program (FPP). GENERAL HIGHLIGHTS:

Please Note: The anticipated duration of position is July 1 through August 30, 2024, while sites are in operation

  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday
  • Work Hours: Up to 34 hours per week with a flexible schedule
  • Location: Hartford, CT
  • Note: A state car and laptop will be provided. Some office time will be required, however majority of the time will be spent in the field at feeding sites and preparing reports at home.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

This Environmental Sanitarian 1 position will be responsible for traveling throughout the state to evaluate the safety of meals delivered to a selection of Summer Food Service Program feeding sites funded by the CT Department of Education. The work involves ensuring the food being delivered is held at safe temperatures and protected from contamination. The responsibilities of this position entail working independently, complemented by supervisory guidance.

Duties of this Environmental Sanitarian 1 position include the following:

  • Working, in cooperation with an Environmental Sanitarian 2, to conduct health inspections of a selection of the approximately 600 feeding sites
  • Reviewing reports with operators
  • Providing education, as needed
  • Collecting food samples, as needed
  • Writing reports, preparing letters and preparing a final report
  • Report findings to the FPP Supervisor

ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND DRINKING WATER BRANCH:

The Department's Environmental Health and Drinking Water (EHDW) Branch regulates over 2,500 public water systems that provide safe drinking water to over 2.8 million people in the State of Connecticut and oversees activities related to food protection, private wells, subsurface sewage disposal, lead, radon, asbestos, and licensure.
