PURPOSE:  The Afterschool Counselor provides direct supervision and care to students in extended learning programs. The position is part of a committed school team that ensures the highest program operating standards in student safety, security, and care.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Provides direct supervision of students in grades kindergarten through fifth.
  • Ensures safety, security, and care of children.
  • Takes attendance; distributes snacks; assists with homework completion; and oversees using facilities, materials, and equipment.
  • Plans and implements child care and extended learning programs and activities.
  • Implements emergency evacuation procedures and first aid when necessary.
  • Documents students’ accidents and injuries and completes accident reports.
  • Identifies student misconduct, redirects as necessary, and completes incident reports.
  • Assists in keeping facilities neat and clean.
  • Maintains professionalism regarding school affairs.
