Field Application Engineer

Samsung SDI is a leading supplier of lithium ion batteries for electronic, industrial and utility applications including mobile phones, notebook personal computers, uninterrupted power supplies, and energy storage. For more information on Samsung SDI, refer to http://www.samsungsdi.com/ .

Purpose:

This position is responsible for the day to day engineering technical sales activities with new and existing customers. The position (i) supports sales and business development from a technical standpoint to ensure customers satisfaction and recurring orders; provides after sales support and maintenance to customers; present and demonstrate solutions to customers and be able to show deep technical knowledge; develop relationships across organizations (ii) Battery and material level test and analysis for advanced materials and new type of batteries; Market and R&D trend/status research in battery industry and academia; (iii) Teardown and non-destructible analysis for all battery product from Samsung (iiii) Coordinate all above technical responsibilities in close collaboration and support from the Korean Center of Excellence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Consultation:

Collaborate with sales and account management teams to understand customer requirements and objectives related to battery solutions.

Conduct technical assessments and evaluations of customer needs, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend optimal battery solutions.

Provide expert advice and guidance to clients on battery technology, applications, and best practices to maximize energy storage efficiency and performance.

 

Solution Design and Architecture:

Design and architect customized battery solutions based on customer requirements, considering factors such as energy capacity, power output, and environmental considerations.

Develop comprehensive solution designs, including battery configurations, integration with renewable energy systems, and monitoring/control systems, to ensure seamless implementation and operation.

 

Technical Demonstrations and Presentations:

Deliver compelling technical demonstrations and presentations to showcase the capabilities and benefits of our battery solutions to prospective clients and stakeholders.

Articulate technical concepts related to battery technology, energy storage systems, and integration options in a clear and concise manner, tailored to the audience's level of understanding and interest.

 

Proof of Concept (POC) Development:

Lead the development and execution of proof of concept (POC) projects to validate the feasibility and performance of battery solutions in real-world applications.

Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to deploy and test POC solutions, collect data, and analyze results to demonstrate the value proposition to customers.

 

Customer Support and Training:

Provide technical support to customers throughout the sales process, including responding to inquiries, addressing technical concerns, and assisting with solution configuration and implementation.

Conduct training sessions and workshops for customers to educate them on battery technology, system operation, and maintenance best practices..


 

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 0-3 years of experience in a technical pre-sales or engineering role, with expertise in battery technology, energy storage systems, or related fields.
  • Strong technical background with knowledge of battery chemistry, cell design, energy management systems, and regulatory requirements related to battery solutions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven track record of success in designing and architecting complex solutions, delivering technical demonstrations, and driving customer engagement and satisfaction.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a passion for understanding customer needs, solving problems, and delivering innovative solutions.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project management experience, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage project timelines and budgets, and drive successful project outcomes is a plus

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

- Experience in pre-sales, solutions engineering, or similar role, in the li-ion/energy storage systems or automotive industry a plus.
- Strong technical background with expertise in renewable energy and/or battery systems, and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.
- Methodological knowledge on how to conduct Root Cause Analysis (practical experience is a plus)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (Korean is a plus)
