Intern, External Affairs

Location: 

CPB is conveniently located amidst multiple metro stops at 401 Ninth St. NW, Washington, DC. We are a largely local workforce and value employee flexibility, when possible. This position will require up to a forty-hour commitment each week, which can be conducted with a combination of in-person and remote work. 

Position Opportunity:

  • This intern’s primary responsibility will be to research, gather, and draft material for external facing communications documents. This includes compiling and updating state public media profiles and creating materials that highlight public media’s content and services to underserved communities.
  • If there is an interest, the internship allows for attending in-person congressional meetings with CPB government affairs staff.
  • Reports to the Sr. Director, External and Government Affairs. Other interaction includes working with CPB staff in multiple departments to gather project information that can be communicated externally.
  • Works on other projects, as assigned, based on the intern’s interests and CPB’s needs.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in bachelor’s or master’s degree program or recent college graduate. Concentrated area of study in Communications or Public Policy desirable.
  • An understanding of grant-making organizations, non-profits and/or public broadcasting is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience utilizing MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams).
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and foster relationships through a professional presence.
