Job Duties

The Central Shenandoah Health District is currently seeking an enthusiastic Health Educator who is passionate about creating positive health outcomes for members of the Central Shenandoah Community. This individual will work to improve community health outcomes through a education, outreach, and connecting clients to resources. This position must be able to build trusting relationships and community linkages with a variety of services and prepare educational programs for clients across the district. The Health Educator must be an effective liaison with social services, public health, private providers, and must understand how to navigate the healthcare system, understand the social determinants of health, and have demonstrated good communication skills both verbally and in writing. The successful candidate will: train, educate, and provide information to the public and staff on health intervention topics including but not limited to harm reduction strategies. The successful candidate must be experience and comfortable with public speaking and public engagement. This position will allow you to serve the Central Shenandoah area covering the counties of Augusta, Bath, Highland, Rockbridge, and Rockingham, including the cities of Lexington, Buena Vista, Staunton, Waynesboro, and Harrisonburg.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of public health issues; public and private health care practices; program evaluation; planning and policy development; community organizing; survey methods and use of data and health education principles
Skills in program planning; implementations and evaluation; community assessment and organization; writing reports and program plans; grant writing; public speaking; group dynamics and consultation with other professionals and the general public
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, problem solve, make appropriate decisions and develop program goals and objectives, evaluate program outcomes, impacts and processes.
Ability to communicate effectively and in writing; utilize excellent interpersonal skills and foster good working relationships with professionals and community groups to achieve desired outcomes
Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with information and security policies

Additional Considerations

Experience working in public health, social work, human services or health-related field preferred
