Survey & Mapping Intern

The intern in this position will have experience doing the following:

  • Operates various surveying equipment including but not limited to Total Stations, Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment, Electronic Data Collectors, handheld calculators, automatic Levels, prism poles, tripods, tribrachs, level rods, survey chains, measuring tapes, machetes, axes, shovels, and utility locators.
  • Assists the survey crew in the maintenance of all surveying equipment. This includes adjusting and cleaning tribrachs, tripods, level rods, prism poles, survey chains, measuring tapes, utility locators, sharpening machetes, axes, shovels, and chain saw blades. This also includes cleaning survey crew vehicles, boats, and 4x4 utility vehicles.
  • Processes field data collected by survey crews, evaluates and assures the data is accurate, complete, and ensures data meets quality standards and project scope. Produces complete databases containing survey data and Computer Aided Drafting & Design (CADD) files for use in design and mapping purposes. Monitors the filing, storage and delivery of data and files.
  • Collects existing information such as, field survey data, right of way maps, plats, title, and recorded documents. Assists Department staff with data and existing information dissemination such as, field survey data, right of way maps, plats, title, and recorded documents. Analyzes and calculates the location of the baselines and rights of way. Ensures maps, sketches, and descriptions meet the principles, practices, laws, and regulations governing Surveying & Mapping.
  • Utilizes CADD applications to create maps and sketches, including Project Network Control sheets. Uses related CADD applications to perform various calculations and analysis of data. Adheres to Department standards, guidelines, and procedures for creating maps and sketches.
    Perform other duties as required.

Criteria

Enrolled in a Geospatial Science, Computer Science or related program
Interest in geospatial data integration and analysis
Strong communication and teamwork skills
