JOB SUMMARY: PUB ADMISSION AMBASSADOR
Job Title: PUB Admission Ambassador Dates: May and Academic Year
Rate: $15/hr Hours: See below – Hours Per Week Vary
Reports to: Project Advisor Positions Available: 4-8
Purpose: To help facilitate and expedite the membership recruitment and admission process for Project Upward Bound, an OU college prep program for eligible high school students. Training will be provided.
Hours: PUB admission ambassadors will be called in whenever admission fairs and presentations are scheduled and when there is need for preliminary prep work for same. Typically, this could be weekday afternoons and evenings or Saturday morning-to-midday although this would not occur every day. Ambassador positions will last throughout the academic year and can last into the spring. Activities which this position support normally occur in the late afternoon, evening, and weekends. Per event hours range from 2 to 5 hours.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Attend training
- Accompany Project Advisor to Presentations and Informationals
- Contact prospective applicants to encourage them to complete the application packet
- Contact parents of applicants to secure support documents
- Maintain accurate records of all contacts and attempted contacts
- Load, Transport, Unload, Set Up, Break Down, and Reload presentation supplies and equipment
- Make sure everything is stored in appropriate locations following presentations/fairs
- Participate in presentations by talking about your OU experience
- Assist with managing groups for campus tours, lunches, workshops
- Assist applicants with completing online applications
- Make copies, sharpen pencils, answer questions
- Prepare candidate interview folders
- Other duties as assigned by the Project Advisor
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- Good academic standing at Oakland University
- Work/Study during the Academic Year
- Ability to perform the primary job responsibilities (including some bending, lifting & stretching)
- Strong communication and human interaction skills
- Excellent public speaking skills
- Word processing and spreadsheet proficiency
- Experience working with individuals of diverse backgrounds
- Fluent reading, writing, and speaking English
- Spanish proficiency is a plus
