 20The International Peace Institute (IPI) is an independent, non-profit organization working to strengthen inclusive multilateralism for a more peaceful and sustainable planet. Through its research, convening, and strategic advising, IPI provides innovative recommendations for the United Nations System, member states, regional organizations, civil society, and the private sector.

IPI’s Publications Team is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, six-month paid internship to start in late May or early June.

Reporting to the Head of Publications, the intern will assist in producing IPI policy papers, issue briefs, and related materials at IPI’s headquarters in New York City. The intern will also assist the Editor-in-Chief of IPI’s online publication the Global Observatory. The intern will gain experience editing longer policy papers and shorter analytical articles and managing the production of publications and will have the opportunity to learn from IPI’s ongoing research on the multilateral system, peace operations, climate change, and women, peace, and security.

The selected candidate will be expected to work in a hybrid fashion (virtually and in-person) through the duration of the six-month internship. The candidate should be available during standard IPI working hours (9am–5pm EST).

Responsibilities

  • Copyediting, formatting citations, fact checking, and proofreading IPI publications and GO articles and copyediting other IPI communications as required
  • Maintaining the house style guide
  • Conducting photo research for publications
  • Assisting with the dissemination of publications on social media
  • Helping monitor the impact of IPI publications
  • Conducting publications-related administrative tasks
  • Supporting IPI research (literature reviews, data analysis, etc.), as required
  • Performing other ad hoc tasks as determined by the Head of Publications

Qualifications

  • Outstanding editing ability, with acute attention to detail, a passion for grammar, and opinions about punctuation
  • Outstanding writing ability, with an understanding of how to convey ideas concisely and clearly
  • Good eye for design and formatting
  • BA, particularly in international affairs or a related field
  • Knowledge of Chicago style desirable
  • Experience copyediting, proofreading, or working as a writing tutor preferred
  • Experience working with spreadsheets or design tools a plus
  • Familiarity with or interest in multilateral institutions a plus
  • Knowledge of written French a plus

Compensation

The Editorial internship is a full-time position (40 hours a week), paid at a rate of $16.00 per hour.
