Adult Learner & Veteran Services (ALVS) Marketing Team Member (2024) 

Position type: On Campus Student Employment

Colorado State University’s (CSU) Adult Learner & Veteran Services (ALVS) supports the increased academic achievement and holistic development for all adult learners, including but not limited to veterans and student parents, resulting in graduation from Colorado State University (CSU) and sustainable personal and professional success. We do this through engagement and leadership opportunities, community building and resource facilitation. 

The ALVS Marketing Team will focus on building a better awareness and stronger presence of the ALVS throughout the Colorado State University campus and Fort Collins community by sharing and highlighting ALVS opportunities, student experiences, stories, and successes through marketing and media.   

ALVS Marketing Team Members will be accountable for creating, promoting, advertising, and building community for Colorado State University’s Adult Learner & Veteran Services via the ALVS bi-weekly newsletter (MailChimp), ALVS social media accounts (Instagram and Facebook), ALVS Website (WordPress), digital signs (PowerPoint), RamLink, and print media. Team members will navigate marketing to a multigenerational and diverse audience, while also being accountable for co-creating and executing a semester-long marketing calendar with deadlines for content creation, social media posting, website management, and timely distribution of the ALVS Newsletter. Members of this team will also engage in storytelling practices, uplifting student experiences at CSU and highlighting resources. 

Responsibilities will be delegated based on the strengths of the team members. These team members are supervised by the Program Coordinator. 

Graphic Design & Distribution:  

  • Lead the creation of ALVS Program Specific graphics (ALVS Peer Advising Programs, Tailgate Graphics, Identity Week Graphics, etc.) using Adobe and Canva. 
  • Format graphic designs into various formats for the newsletter, digital signs, social media posts, website, RamLink, and print media. 
  • Regularly connect with stakeholders to gain insight and receive feedback on design projects, incorporating the ALVS student experience into their work. 
  • Distribute designs promptly to the necessary outlets both internal and external to the ALVS, including fellow ALVS staff and campus and community partners. 
  • Ensure both digital and physical marketing for ALVS events and resources are inclusive, accessible, up to date, and distributed in a timely manner. 

Social Media & Engagement: 

  • Manage the ALVS Social Media accounts (Facebook & Instagram) through regular postings and responding to comments and direct messages.  
  • Build relationships with other CSU social media accounts to share events and resources with our students and connect our events and resources to their student populations.  
  • Create engagement opportunities on ALVS Social Media Accounts with interactive content such as polls, interviews, takeovers, student highlights, campaigns, etc.   
  • Promote all ALVS office services and programs including our identity weeks (Veterans Week, Student Parent Week, Adult Learner Week), Tailgates, Ram Welcome & Orientation events.  
  • Serve as a point of contact for Official CSU Instagram Takeover days. 
  • Capture photos and videos during ALVS events.  

Newsletter & Web Management:  

  • Cultivate, create, and organize content for the Adult Learner & Veteran Services’ bi-weekly newsletter through MailChimp.  
  • Collect, research, and format content both internal and external to the ALVS office to share information through the ALVS’ newsletter. 
  • Navigate MailChimp for the administrative tasks of managing a newsletter, i.e., adding new members to the distribution list, problem solving, etc. 
  • Connect with campus and community partners to include opportunities and information relevant to our students in the ALVS Newsletter (events, services, etc.). 
  • Manage webpages for Identity Weeks, ALVS Graduation, Resources, etc.  
  • Update ALVS Homepage banners and upcoming events slides with upcoming events. 
  • Ensure that the ALVS’ website is updated with accurate and updated information. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Be accepted for enrollment as a regular degree-seeking student at Colorado State University, carrying at least one credit per term during the academic year. 
  • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing according to Colorado State University standards. 
  • Must be able to commit to the position for at least one year. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively both individually and on a team. 
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to multi-task in a busy work environment. 
  • Possess a commitment to working with diverse populations, identities and experiences. 
  • Possess the desire to work with adult learners, student veterans, and student parents. 
  • Excellent organizational skills with close attention to detail. 
  • Demonstrate problem-solving and decision-making skills. 
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines. 
  • Ability to plan ahead and schedule appropriately. 
  • Knowledge and adequacy with social media. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Working towards a degree or having a strong interest in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Media, English or related field. 
  • Advanced writing skills. 
  • Knowledge of ALVS programs and events. 
  • Knowledge of CSU branding guidelines. 
  • Experience using WordPress or understanding HTML or CSS.  
  • Experience using Facebook and/or Instagram. 
  • Ability to think creatively and work autonomously. 

Pay Range: $16 .00/hour (Students with or without Work Study may apply) 

Openings: 2-3 

Start Date: 

8/16/24 or when position is filled. Potential opportunities for summer work. 

Hours: 8-10 hours a week on average 

Hours/Week: Varies (may include some evenings and/or weekends)
