Handshake & Career Event Assistant - Summer 2024 OR Fall 2024 - Work Study or Regular Pay

Position Summary:

Responsible for assisting with job & internship posting and employer approvals for UW-Whitewater’s Handshake system. This position will also assist with the promotion of Handshake and other career resources on campus. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the planning, promotion, and execution of Career Services events including the annual campus career fairs, Career Fest, and other workshops & events. 

Hours Per Week : 8-13 for Fall 2024; Possibility of more for Summer 2024

Start:  This position is available to start in May 2024 and work through the summer.  If you aren't available for summer, this position would start in September 2024 when fall classes begin. 

This position will work in-person in the Career Services office, University Center Room 129

Position Responsibilities:

Handshake Management

  1. Work with the Technology & Employer Relations Coordinator to review and approve employer requests to connect with UW-Whitewater in Handshake.  Ensure that fraudulent employers are not approved to post positions or view our students’ profiles.
  2. Assist with the posting of jobs and internships in Handshake for UW-Whitewater students and alumni.
  3. Assist with projects to maintain the Handshake system

Career Event Assistance

  1. Assist in the planning and preparation of the fall and spring Hawk Career Fairs for Career Services
  2. Assist with day-of event details at the fall and spring Hawk Career Fairs.
  3. Assist with staffing and planning of other Career Services events throughout the year.

General Marketing Assistance

  1. Assist with the promotion of Handshake to various stakeholders, including students, alumni, on-campus department employers, UWW faculty, and local employers.
  2. Potential opportunity to assist with and give presentations on Handshake to various groups on campus. 
  3. Promote Career Services events and services by tabling around campus
  4. Assist with the creation of the Career Services newsletter
  5. Assist with Career Services’ social media promotions, including the Handshake Feed
  6. As needed, staff the front desk of Career Services to provide customer service to students and/or employers visiting the office.

Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Intermediate knowledge of Handshake
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Students from any major are welcome to apply – HR Management majors/minors preferred
  • Must be a registered UW-Whitewater undergraduate student and maintain at least half-time student status.
  • Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • Students with and without Work Study will be considered.
