K-6th Grade Tutor

 

Position located near IUPUI Campus! (position is part of the Community Work-study program at IUPUI)

 

This position is limited to IUPUI Student candidates with a Federal Work-Study award. General Purpose of Position:

Our K-6th grade tutoring program is tutoring for youth in under-resourced areas around Indianapolis to increase academic achievement. This is a great opportunity for undergraduate students to be engaged with and make a difference in the local community. 

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction to individual or small groups of students to improve academic performance, improve occupational skills, or prepare for academic tests.
  • Provide feedback to students, using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students.
  • Teach students reading, math, and test-taking strategies
  • Review tutoring material with students by discussing the text, working on solutions to problems, or reviewing worksheets or other assignments.
  • Assess students' progress throughout tutoring sessions
  • Organize tutoring environment to promote productivity and learning.
  • Participate in training and development sessions to improve tutoring practices or learn new tutoring techniques.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to determine student needs, develop tutoring plans, or assess student progress.
  • Facilitate tutoring sessions
  • Review tutoring materials prior to the session.
  • Communicate students' progress to students and supervisors
  • Administer academic or diagnostic assessments.
  • The job requires being reliable, responsible, dependable and fulfilling obligations.

A reliable vehicle is required for this position, as this is an off-campus job with multiple locations.

 

Communicator - effectively communicate with off-site leadership, school teachers & admin, as well as other tutors and the students themselves

 

Problem Solver - daily data tracking & weekly assessments to determine if students are ready to move forward to the next lesson

 

Innovator - troubleshoot on days we don't have a room reserved for tutoring, confront & address student behavioral issues

 

Community Contributor - tutors work within Indianapolis Public Schools, creating new & improved opportunities for the youth and developing a better educated future Indianapolis.
