Professional Development Programme

DAI

DAI UK’s Professional Development Programme (PDP) is an intensive on-the-job 2 year training programme, based in DAI’s UK offices (Apsley and London), and enables individuals to acquire the fundamental skills required to be successful in our business, build their networks and knowledge and engage with initiatives across DAI UK. After completion of the 2 years, the DAI UK Business Unit commits to continue to develop the individual’s skills and experiences and help them progress to more senior positions within the business over the years.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for recent under graduates and master’s graduates with at least a year of relevant industry experience. We welcome applicants who can demonstrate the following skills: critical thinking, organisational skills, initiative, managing complexity, strong written and verbal communications, strong academic record, and demonstrated initiative of playing a leadership role within their universities, communities, or work environment.

What the programme consists of:

You will be assigned to one of our Technical Teams: Economic Growth, Environment and Climate, Conflict and Stabilisation, Governance and Accountability, Human Development (covering health and education), Evidence, Learning and Technical Assistance Facilities (ELTAF) and will complete the following activities:

  • Business Growth: You will learn the strategic priorities and tender processes of our main client, the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and of other His Majesty’s Government Departments (HMG) and clients. You will be assigned to specific proposals and engage in the full bid cycle from pre-positioning, bid planning, writing submission, and contract negotiation.
  • Project Management and Delivery: you will learn the core tasks for the effective, impactful management of our projects delivered on behalf of our clients. You will experience the full project management cycle from mobilisation, to implementation, reporting and close down. You will be assigned to specific projects and engage in team management, client relationship management, project monitoring, reporting, communications and learning.
  • Commercial, Finance and Operations: you will learn the core aspects of commercial, financial and operational compliance and management for DAI’s projects including budget management, contract amendments, financial and profit reporting and forecasting of our projects, and pricing of tenders.
  • Recruitment and Talent Management: Recruitment and talent management are at the heart of DAI’s business so you will regularly engage in project and proposal recruitment and talent management for project staff, for short and long term technical experts and staff.
