Reading Tutor

Position located near IUPUI Campus! (position is part of the Community Work-study program at IUPUI) (2.1 miles from campus)

 

This position is limited to IUPUI Student candidates with a Federal Work-Study award. POSITION DESCRIPTION

The college intern and work-study program at Charity Cares Early Academy provides an opportunity for students to gain quality experiences in a community-based setting supporting children and families of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. We provide an opportunity for students to implement professional skills and talents, exude positive energy, and gain holistic feedback. 

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist a specific group of children from kindergarten through 8th grade in increasing their reading skills
  2. Assess their strengths and weaknesses in mathematics
  3. Plan and Implement activities and games that align with students’ individual and collective learning needs
  4. Maintain all required recordkeeping, child reports and assessments
  5. Maintain a clean, safe, calm, organized, structured, stimulating, and nurturing learning environment
  6. Maintain compliance with all local, state, and national governing policies, standards, and regulations
  7. Maintain communication and confidentiality with children, families, and other staff members
  8. Provide daily implementation of the assigned schedule, lesson plans, and activities to promote individual child goal progression
  9. Provide direct engagement, interactions, care, and education to all children in care and establish routines that promote positive guidance
  10. Provide quality supervision, both sight and sound, with children continuously throughout the day while maintaining ratios

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Charity Cares Early Academy operates within the confines of all local, state, and nationally established policies.

  1. A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, Technical Certificate (18 credits or more), or an Associate in Early Childhood Education is preferred; however, candidates with prior documented experience in early childhood, child development, elementary education, fine arts, technology, and human/social services are encouraged to apply as well
  2. Complete a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education or three related college credits on an annual basis
  3. Ability, competence, and knowledge to implement all facility program rules and regulations
  4. Respect and love for children and their families
  5. Disposition to work positively with others

POSITION SKILLS GAINED

Intern and work-study students will learn to manage program operating procedures simultaneously, provide early care and education to young children, positively guide child behavior, and assist with the organization of Care Spaces and resources in ways that promote an engaging environment that supports child safety and learning. This is a fast-paced environment that requires attentiveness and care. The skills most gained from this learning experience is direct support to children and communication with their families. Additional skills include:

  2. Communicator
  3. Innovator
  4. Community Contributor

POSITION PAY SCALE

  1. $16.00 to $18.00 per hour
  2. Additional earnings based upon experience and education
