Biological Field Technician

Frontier Resources is a small environmental consulting company in Vernal, Utah that specializes in environmental regulatory compliance.  We are seeking entry-level Biological Field Technicians that can work on an on-call basis. The work will be primarily botany and wildlife surveys as part of pre-construction requirements associated with natural gas and oil development here in the Uintah Basin. The role includes hiking long distances in extreme desert conditions. The work is seasonal from roughly April through October depending on client demand and weather. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with surveys and collect field data related to sensitive plants, wildlife and habitats
  • Record detailed field notes and record data on GPS units and field site forms
  • Use topographic maps, aerial photographs and GPS units to navigate to survey locations
  • Operate and maintain off-road vehicles
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with other staff

Qualifications:

  • Completed/working towards B.A. or B.S. in Biology, Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork safely for long hours in extreme environmental conditions
  • Ability to walk up to 10 miles per day, often in rugged terrain
  • Ability to take initiative, solve problems, and create improved procedures
  • Interest in and willingness to learn field biology survey techniques
  • Ability to work effectively as member of a team and manage personality conflicts
  • Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing schedules including occasional weekend work and gaps in work
  • Knowledge of desert ecology, botany and wildlife

Compensation:

Pay is based on individual qualifications and experience ranging from $14/hour to $20/hour and will include overtime when applicable, but no other benefits.
