SAVI Data Analysis and Social Media Intern-GRADUATE STUDENTS ONLY APPLY

This is a hybrid remote and in-person role for graduate level students for Summer 2024 with the possibility of extension to Fall 2024.

In this role, you will help us support SAVI users by responding to user requests, completing data analysis for SAVI and other projects, and using your analytical skills to write weekly social media posts.

You will support the SAVI Community Information System. SAVI provides neighborhood-level data to citizens and nonprofits in the Indianapolis Metro Area. We do this through a reliable data warehouse, interactive web applications, research, and training.

Many of our projects present information and data about communities through simple, engaging interfaces.

You will be responsible for:

  • ·Responding to SAVI user requests, helping with the use of SAVI, requests for specific data sets, or simple analytical queries.
  • ·Using programming packages such as GIS, Python, and/or R to analyze and visualize data.
  • ·Collecting, organizing, visualizing, and disseminating tabular and spatial data.
  • Generating static and possibly web-based maps
  • ·Research and analysis
  • Writing multiple social media posts weekly to help Communications Manager expand digital visibility, reach, and community engagement. The goal is using your analytical skills to help others understand gaps in service, trends, assets, ways to build capacity, and show the value of how SAVI’s data helps tackle problems that impact daily lives. Platforms include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

 

Qualifications:

  • ·Must be a graduate student
  • ·Ability to be organized in a complex process with many overlapping tasks
  • ·Experience in Excel, Access, R, SAS, Python or other data software
  • Experience with GIS (geographic information systems) a plus, Esri products in particular.
  • Familiarity with Census data a plus
  • Good writing skills

Through this internship opportunity, you will learn how mapping and data can support the needs of nonprofits, and be introduced to a model of user support that 1) serves the community and 2) is guided by collaboration with stakeholders.
