Intern - Workplace Experience Space Planning

Intern Program with NetApp, Supporting NetApp’s Workplace Experience - Space Planning Program

In this program, NetApp and specifically the Workplace Experience – Space Planning Program Team will help the intern obtain professional experience. Workplace Experience Programs provide essential services for supporting the business for all the corporate real estate, facilities operations, infrastructure maintenance and the business services of the workplace. The Space Planning Department is an integral part of this group, with the Americas Division responsible for maintaining data for almost 8000 employees/contractors and a nearly 2M SF real estate portfolio. We provide the intern with training and learning opportunities to help gain experience in the corporate environment with a focus on space planning principles for use of office and data lab space, assessing headcount demand, occupancy requirements and support the Thrive Together workplace model for all sites across the US.

This opportunity will be located in the Research Triangle Park, NC location and will report to the Space Planning Manager – Americas. 

Goals and Objectives - To provide a wide range of experiential learning opportunities within the Workplace Experience (WX) Programs. These opportunities will translate into a clear understanding of the following space planning initiatives:

  • Headcount and portfolio data management and analysis within the IWMS Platform and beyond, and how that translates into space allocation
  • Budget allocation and management for both Opex and Capex projects and the tools associated with each to include eBuilder Capex modeling, forecasting, and tracking
  • Construction program and project management as it relates to furniture, fixtures and equipment specification, budgeting, and procurement
  • Services procurement and management as it relates to Opex and Capex projects and initiatives
  • Customer service and relationship management with internal stakeholders

Job requirements

Important Program Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist with inventory management and purchases of furniture for site operations
  • Job shadowing to learn to support site upfits, restacks, and/or any other furniture or space demands.
  • Data gathering and analysis as it relates to headcount and portfolio tracking to support program initiatives
  • Assist in development and design of project drawings via AutoCAD, including office layouts and floor plans, as well as provide preliminary cost estimates for project budgeting
  • Engage in research and external benchmarking
  • Assist in maintaining design direction and integrity for all Americas Facilities, as well as implementation and ongoing use of furniture and design standards
  • Collaborate with Construction and Site Operations Management as necessary for upfit and new construction projects
  • Assist in oversight of external vendors as necessary to align with NetApp project goals
  • Support other WX functions, initiatives, or projects as needed or requested

Education & experience

  • Currently enrolled in an Interior Design or Architecture program through summer 2024 or later, with a minimum of 72 semester hours completed
  • Strong team building and collaboration skills
  • Strong organizational skills, independent thinking with ability to prioritize
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, flexible, and able to think strategically
  • Strong AutoCAD skills
  • Knowledge of commercial ancillary and systems furniture is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
