Social Media Intern

The Museum’s social media intern is responsible for planning social media calendars, creating social media posts for approval by Museum staff, and assisting with developing social media strategies. The successful candidate must have excellent knowledge of and experience with various social media platforms. The museum primarily uses Instagram and Facebook. Candidates may be asked to share samples of online content, or design or writing samples, that were created by the candidate and reflect their abilities to perform the responsibilities of this position (the samples do not have to be related to museums). Interview on campus or via Zoom if needed. Excellent writing skills and attention to detail are required. 

Social Media Intern Job Responsibilities:

  • Managing the Museum’s social media accounts, including scheduling and posting content after approval by Museum staff via Meta Business Suite;
  • Developing single posts or extended social media campaign ideas based on calendars (e.g., for notable holidays, anniversaries of historic events, or birthdays), Museum programming, or current affairs;
  • Monitoring various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for museum, art, or archaeology related stories or events to share or react to;
  • Analyzing analytics to gauge the success of campaigns, providing reports to Museum staff;
  • Understanding the mission of the Museum, as well as its brand, audiences, and the goals of social media activity for the Museum;
  • Engaging with Museum staff to develop content;
  • Providing suggestions for improving the Museum’s presence on social media platforms or internal processes related to social media.
