Distance Learning Program Intern

About us: 
The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and young adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, and community green spaces across the country.

Position Description:

Expand and formalize the Distance Learning Program at Bering Land Bridge National Preserve. The internship will be an opportunity to learn about distance learning and in person education programming through the National Park Service, collaborate with NPS educators, and contribute to the long-term growth of the Education Program at Bering Land Bridge National Preserve, headquartered in Nome, AK. 

The internship would focus on expanding the scope of the Education and Interpretation program at Bering Land Bridge National Preserve by creating new curriculum for distance learning programs, hosting in person interpretative programs in the community, and strengthening park partnerships through programming and collaboration. The intern would shadow distance learning programs at other parks, write two new lessons, and learn from and connect with other National Park Service educators in a community of practice. The intern would learn to schedule Distance Learning programs, advertise for the programs, and build communication skills through program evaluations and pre-program connections. In the summertime, the SCA would focus on building relationships in the local community through youth programming. They will have the opportunity to lead their own programs, and work with local organizations to bring the parks to kids. Alongside programming, the intern will have the chance to learn about the internal communications of the National Park Service, through website editing, brainstorming groups, and communities of practice, and other various NPS Interpretation and Education trainings.

  • $1,500 - duty related travel (meant for work-related travel)
  • AmeriCorps eligible (must complete 900 hours to earn $3,447.50 education award)

    • Government provided shared dorm style. Internet is provied. Intern will have their own room and share common spaces with other employees.

Additional Information:
It is SCA's policy that all AmeriCorps-required background checks must return cleared prior to the position's start; this includes being fingerprinted for the FBI check. Otherwise, the AmeriCorps award will be removed or the position's start date will be delayed due to non-compliance.
