Graduate Research Assistant, Data Science 4 Everyone

Job Title: Graduate Research Assistant (Remote)

Organization: Data Science 4 Everyone

Position Type: Temporary, Contract (10 hours per week for 3 months, approximately June - August 2024)

Pay Structure: Research Assistants will be independent contractors and will receive an hourly rate of $30/hour for a maximum of 10 hours per week.

Location: Remote

Overview:

Data Science 4 Everyone, a nonprofit organization working to ensure every K-12 student develops the data skills they need to succeed in our modern world, is seeking to hire 3 - 4 skilled Graduate Research Assistants to contribute to our ongoing efforts advancing data science education. 

This is a temporary, contract position lasting 3 months during Summer 2024, providing an excellent opportunity for graduate students at the Masters or PhD level to engage in meaningful research within a collaborative and supportive environment.

Please note that only United States citizens or permanent residents are eligible for this position. 

Responsibilities and Opportunities:

  • Literature Review and Analysis:
    • Conduct a comprehensive review of relevant literature in data science education, with a focus on K-12 math education, statistics education, or computer science education.
    • Analyze and synthesize key findings from current research in the field.
  • Paper Review and Revision:
    • Collaborate with the research team to review and revise a topical paper related to key areas in data science education.
    • Contribute meaningfully on content, methodology, and presentation.
  • Peer Mentorship:
    • Engage in peer mentorship activities with fellow Research Assistants, including attending regular group discussions and providing constructive feedback on writing, in order to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange within the research team.
  • One-on-One Mentoring:
    • Participate in personalized mentoring sessions with the team at Data Science 4 Everyone, providing the opportunity to enhance your professional and research development.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Background:
    • Currently enrolled in a graduate program at the Master’s or PhD level, with a focus on education research.
    • Enthusiasm for expanding K-12 data science education and modernizing curricula for the 21st century.
  • Experience:
    • Demonstrated experience in reviewing and synthesizing education research literature.
    • Familiarity with one or more of the following areas: K-12 math education, statistics education, or computer science education.
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a remote team.
  • Time Commitment:
    • 10 hours per week for a period of 3 months.
