The Office of Residence Life seeks (1-2) Graduate Assistant to serve as live-in professional to support the operations of university-sponsored housing, ensuring an environment conducive to student development and academic success. GAs work with the professional staff team to support daily building operations, participate in on-call duty rotation, educational programming, community development, staff training, staff selection, and departmental assessment.

 

Our residents live in a mixture of buildings on MCPHS’ campus and buildings on neighboring college campuses. Our office has the unique opportunity to work closely with campus partners for the day-to-day operation of our halls.

 

Supervision & Community Development
• Assist professional staff with the oversight of a residential area supporting community members in managing conflict, empowering students to self-advocate, and building relationships in order to facilitate referrals to appropriate campus resources
• Oversee all programming efforts for RA Staff including maintaining individual budgets, enforcing programming model requirements, building-wide programming, maintaining integrity and intention of RA programming
• Hold monthly one-on-ones with RAs to advise them with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programming efforts
• Assist with the supervision of student workers (Desk Attendants, Mailroom Assistants and Office Assistants)
• Participate in all aspects of the planning and execution of RA Training and Selection including planning monthly RA In-service trainings
• Lead the management of one special project throughout the academic year, which include: Off Campus Housing or Social Media & Marketing
• Oversee an RL special committee, i.e., RA Recognition, Health & Wellness, Social Media & Marketing, Social Justice, Educational Programming

 

On-Call & Student Conduct
• Participate in Residence Life on Call (ROC) Duty Rotation- including weekends, after-hours, break periods and holidays. When on-call, acts as the primary contact for on-campus emergencies or crises
• Document policy violations, student concerns, mediations, etc. through the conduct management system
• Adjudicate minor level cases and assists the Dean of Students staff to educate MCPHS University community on policy infractions and responsibility
• Attend weekly Conduct and On Call meetings during business hours

 

Administrative
• Live-In position, Part Time, 20 Hours/Week. Furnished, on campus housing and meal plan provided
• Attend weekly RL staff meetings held during business hours; Encouraged to attend RA weekly staff meetings held generally during evening hours, if course schedule allows
• Assist with the opening and closing of residence halls, departmental assessment, and planning initiatives
• Be available, visible, and approachable to students within the college community and attends community functions
• Participate in professional development workshops provided by the Division of Student Affairs
• Opportunities to participate in campus-wide and COF wide committees to help educate and train students in collaboration with campus partners
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life and/or Area Coordinator
• Contributes to sustaining and enhancing an inclusive working and learning environment

 

Required:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Current graduate student who is pursuing a master’s degree in higher education and/or student affairs administration, education, counseling, or related field concurrently while in the position
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
• Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment

 

Desired:
• Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office and social media platforms and ability to work with or learn data management systems
• Previous experience in a residential life or student leadership setting

• Standing, sitting, manual dexterity, ability to move between offices and floors of buildings; Being on call requires response in person across our various building.
• Ability to meet deadlines and perform well under pressure
