Virtual Reality Student Assistant

***Starts fall 2024***

The virtual reality student assistant maintains the daily operations and services of the Olson Library’s Virtual Reality Area. Need to work 8-12 hours a week. Responsibilities include: 

  • Greets and assists students, faculty, staff, and community members
  • Sets-up virtual reality equipment, troubleshoots problems, teaches users how to use the equipment, and suggests apps based on users' interests.
  • Communicates to Center’s supervisor any software or hardware problems encountered.
  • May be asked to perform other library support functions.

If you possess audio/video editing skills you may

  • Help users with video, audio, multimedia, or presentation projects including troubleshooting technical issues, offering suggestions based on users’ goals, and providing instruction for conversion of video, audio and other file formats.
  • Instruct patrons how to use video and audio recording equipment available for checkout by the library.

Required qualifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to patiently communicate technical concepts to users with widely varying skill levels
  • Hands-on experience with virtual reality applications and hardware (or quickly willing to learn), and able to suggest apps based on users' interests.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems
  • Ability to work independently and to multitask.
  • Willingness to ask for help when needed.
  • Willingness to work weekends and evenings as needed.

Additional desired qualifications, but not required

  • Hands-on experience with a variety of video/audio production equipment (HD video cameras, mics, tripods, etc.) on Windows based computers
  • Specialized interest and skill in one or more multimedia disciplines such as video editing, compositing, graphic design, presentation, audio production, animation, or interactive media.
  • Willingness to learn new technical concepts and tasks and be accurate with your work.
  • Available portfolio of multimedia projects
