Laboratory Operations Assistant

  • Under the direction of the laboratory supervisor, ensures that lab supplies are ordered and stocked.
  • Maintains inventory documentation and communicates to the manager when there are delays in supply delivery to the lab
  • Works within the Purchase Ordering system and communicates to administrative personnel to ensure all paper work is available for accounts payable.
  • Maintain an excellent relationship with all vendors and sales representatives.
  • Follow-up communication with vendors on all incoming orders.
  • Maintain supply areas in audit ready conditions at all times.
  • Fast and accurate process of supplies from receiving to shelves.
  • Maintain accurate accountability of inventory with in the assigned database.
  • Assist manager and supervisor in upholding procedures and SOP’s through-out the department.
  • Cross-train appropriate personnel in all purchasing/receiving functions in case of absence.
  • Ensures proper handling of receipts and purchase orders.
  • Keeping operations manager informed of daily operations.
  • Providing support to the Reporting Officer as needed. This may include receipt of client calls for reprinting of reports, ensuring all failed fax reports are followed up and delivered, and other reporting responsibilities as needed.
  • Provides support to Sample Management as needed including unpacking, accessioning and archiving
  • Search for and provide samples to laboratory as requested
  • Perform other laboratory-related tasks such as sample sorting, archiving, instrument maintenance etc. as directed by the laboratory manager

Qualifications

Basic Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent experience
  • Authorization to work in the US for any employer, indefinitely, without sponsorship.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite and Outlook.
  • Willing to work overtime as needed to accomplish tasks
  • Ability to lift packages greater than 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Willingness to work schedule:
    • Alternating weeks Sunday- Thursday and Monday - Friday;
      • 11:00p - 7:30a ; Training schedule would initially be on First and Second shifts.
  • Pays $18/hr plus 10% differential when working on 2nd and 3rd shifts

The Ideal Candidate would possess:

  • Minimal experience with pipetting in an academic or industry lab.
  • Energetic and hard working characteristics
  • Strong analytical, logistics, leadership and communication skills: verbal and written.
  • Self motivated.
  • Strong organizational skills.
