Behavioral Health Advocate

The Behavioral Health Advocate provides supportive peer counseling and advocacy to adult consumers receiving services in the Intensive Outpatient/Outpatient Program (IOP). Peer Advocate must demonstrate knowledge of mental illness and the services available to consumers in the community. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the needs of the consumers they served. He or she must be able to interpret the consumer’s reported status in order to identify each consumers needs and provide the appropriate care, including age-related care, needed by the consumer group. Assist consumers by meeting individual needs and aid consumers to focus on beginning to utilize their time with the Intensive Outpatient Program as an opportunity for growth and change. Advocate must be able to provide insight into recovery by facilitating groups that encourage and support the consumer in post-crisis mode. Emphasis should be placed on finding and including hope, encouragement and positive skills to focus on their wellness and recovery. 

Legacy Treatment Services offers outpatient mental health services for those who could benefit from improvements in mental and behavioral health. Our outpatient program offers a comprehensive and personalized approach to mental illness.

Education/Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent, with proof of some post high school training, college work or certificate program. BA preferred. Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS), Certified Recovery Support Practitioner (CRSP) or comparable certification required. Must be a survivor of mental illness and must have knowledge of the mental health system.
