NOAA is seeking bright, innovative, results-oriented students who are pursuing a degree or certificate program in an accredited educational institution for our Summer Intern Program. 

The NOAA Summer Intern Program targets students currently enrolled (or currently enrolled and accepted for enrollment) in a degree-seeking or Certificate program at least on a half-time basis. (Applicants who do not meet the definition of student by the closing date of the announcement will not be considered).

The NOAA Physical Sciences Laboratory (PSL) based in Boulder, Colorado, is looking for a summer intern to work on the lab's internal and external communications. PSL conducts research to improve observations, understanding, modeling and predictions of weather, water and climate extremes, and their related impacts.

As a Student Trainee (Communications), you will perform the following duties:

  • Perform work assignments that are clear-cut, well defined, and designed to support the mission of the laboratory. Perform routine communication/informational assignments under supervisory instructions on objectives, limitations, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Work closely with Physical Sciences Laboratory's (PSL's) Communications Specialist, helping to promote lab news, activities, and events within PSL and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and externally to the scientific community and general public through digital and print communications. Tasks include developing email newsletters, fact sheets, social media content, web page content, presentations, and graphics, assisting in PSL communications planning/strategy, and supporting events and outreach initiatives.
  • Help with day-to-day communications administrative tasks and cross-lab coordination.

In order to be eligible to receive consideration for this position, you must be able to: (1) report to the duty station location listed in this vacancy announcement, if selected; and (2) be available to work the schedule identified.

This is a temporary appointment not to exceed September 30, 2024 that may be extended as long as the individual continues to meet the eligibility requirements of the Pathways Intern Program and the employing office has a continuing need.

*Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.
