Undergraduate Lab Assistant
We are Torii Lab, a research lab at UT Austin MBS/HHMI (in NMS building), studying how plants develop using molecular biology, genetic, genomic, cell biology, and biochemistry and chemical biology approaches. See our website: plant-stomata.org
Position Details:
We are looking for a motivated, organized, and hard-working undergrad lab assistant to help with lab chores.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Hours: 12-16 hours/week preferred, flexible based on your schedule
- Basic chemistry classes/labs experience required
- Time commitment: Upon agreement and initial paid trial, on a semester basis
- General lab chores
Salary:
- $9-$14 per hour, depending on your experience and school year
Responsibilities:
- Clean, sterilize and maintain lab glassware and plasticware
- Autoclave transgenic plants and other general biohazards
- Maintain inventories for molecular biology consumables
- Clean plant trays, sow seeds or maintain our precious plants
- Make and sterilize chemical buffers and media
- Perform sterile bench work, such as pouring agar plates
Working Conditions:
- Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished).
- May work around chemical fumes.
- May work around standard office conditions.
- May work around biohazards.
- May work around chemicals.
