Peer educators are responsible for WellBeing programming initiatives across campus, utilizing the 8 dimensions of WellBeing. This position gives students the opportunity to create and deliver programming, hone their public speaking and facilitation skills, extensively practice program development and implementation, and collaborate and work as a team. In addition to advancing these skills, they will also have the opportunity to become a NASPA Certified Peer Educator through the training conducted the week before fall semester 2024 begins.

Members of the Peer Educator Team will work with and report to the WellBeing Promotions Coordinator. They will develop and assist with programming to encourage campus-wide change surrounding holistic wellbeing and prevention. The students filling these  positions should have an overall interest in shaping a healthier campus community.   
  
Peer Educators will be expected to value and empower fellow students, and to assist with various WellBeing events as needed. Members of the team perform their work in a highly collaborative environment and should be expected to work closely with students and professional staff to complete the responsibilities listed below.   

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. In collaboration with other peer educators, plan and implement wellbeing education presentations, workshops, campaigns, and events.
  2. Assist in social media and marketing campaign planning and development for the NMU WellBeing social media account(s).
  3. Actively pursue current and wellbeing information and new wellbeing trends in order to act as an accurate resource of information for wellbeing promotion initiatives.
  4. Assist in the evaluation of program efforts and offer input into future directions for the program.
  5. Work cooperatively with other wellbeing staff members, and other departments, and assist with wellbeing departmental special events.
  6. Attend weekly staff meetings, and others as planned.
  7. Other related duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

From the WellBeing Promotions Coordinator

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher; minimum semester GPA of 2.5 or higher during the semester preceding application for employment; a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher must be earned each semester for continuation of employment.
  2. Sophomore status or above (as of fall 2024).
  3. Willing to commit to minimum of 2 semesters at 10-20 hours per week.
  4. Interest in working with student health and wellbeing.
  5. Above average communication skills — writing, speaking, and listening.
  6. Ability to work independently and on teams.
  7. Able to manage time effectively and balance priorities.
  8. Able to interact with individuals from all backgrounds and perspectives.
  9. Able to attend 2-3 days of training the week before fall 2024 classes begin.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Demonstrated involvement in campus life.
  2. Experience with community outreach.
  3. Evidence of written and oral presentation skills.
  4. Experience with creating Instagram reels and other social media planning.
