Civil Engineer in Training (EIT)
Newkirk Engineering Inc. (NEI) is seeking a full-time Civil Engineer in Training (EIT) for our transportation design division. The successful candidate will be able to tackle roadway design projects in a challenging, fast paced, and team-oriented environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, design, and production of construction contract plans, specifications, and supporting contract documents for a variety of projects to include roadway resurfacing, intersection reconstruction, safety enhancement, roadway widening; sidewalk, multi-use-trail and stormwater drainage.
- Complete roadway design plans utilizing Civil 3D to develop design models meeting FDOT standards and develop dynamic plan sheets with limited supervision.
- Developing drainage plans including plan views, ditch profiles, drainage structure sheets, and pond detail sheets.
- Perform engineering calculations, data analysis, and field observations
- Preparing permit applications and managing agency correspondence in the pursuit of permits for projects.
- Performing drainage design analysis including ponds, ditches, hydraulic modelling using ICPR4 stormwater analysis software. Additionally, systems will be analyzed for pipe-sizing and hydraulic grade lane, roadway spread, hydroplaning, and erosion control.
- Complete project tasks within deadlines and work within allotted project budgets.
- Work toward your PE license with peer support and guidance from senior PE staff.
Experience & Education Requirements
- 0-3 years of previous roadway design or other transportation related work experience.
- Bachelor’s in civil engineering or related field.
- Must possess Fundamentals of Engineering (EI) certification or able to obtain within 6-months of employment.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license prior to and during employment
- Basic understanding and willingness to become proficient in Autocad Civil 3D, ICPR4 and Microsoft Office products ICPR
Experience & Education Preferences
- Transportation area undergraduate focus
- Pre-graduate internships or work-experience with plan production experience
- Experience with FDOT specific plans production (Roadway, Drainage, and Signing and Pavement Marking Design)
- Proficient in all Microsoft office programs, Autocad & Civil-3D, ICPR4, and Primavera software
- Knowledge of roadway design standards (AASHTO, FDOT, MUTCD, etc.)
