Goodyear Driving Opportunity Peer Mentor

Recruiting Notice 

The Office of Multicultural Development is looking for a Peer Mentor  to mentor and support undergraduate students in the Goodyear Driving Opportunity Scholarship program. Applicants must be an undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior currently enrolled at The University of Akron. This position will report directly to the Associate Director of Academic Support Services. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Meet one-on-one with Goodyear Driving Opportunity Scholarship students for 10-15 hours per  week throughout the fall 2024-spring 2025 academic year.
  • Document sessions by ensuring students log-in before and log-out after their sessions
  • Submit report forms containing sessions summaries for each Program Student
  • Assess the needs of individual scholars’ and develop plans to provide personalized support
  • Monitor and assess student progress toward short term and long-term goals during one-on-one meetings  throughout the semester
  • Complete reports at the conclusion of each semester summarizing the scholars’ progress
  • Communicate any training needs and/or student concerns to the Associate Director of Academic Support Services
  • Assist with programming and/or workshops as requested by the Associate Director of Academic Support Services
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Academic Support Services

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Desire to help students succeed
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate at the University of Akron
  • Completion of two semesters of  undergraduate coursework
  • Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Awareness and sensitivity to individual learning styles and needs
  • Ability to apply study strategies, goal setting, organizational skills & time management in sessions

 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Experience mentoring other students.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.

 

Compensation 

  • Hourly rate to be discussed upon interview
  • Goodyear Scholarship award towards UA tuition: $1,250
