Hourly Research Scientist (JR-0000652)

Responsibilities

The Hourly Research Scientist will contribute to special projects for the isolation and characterization of bacterial pathogens. Specialized projects include the identification, isolation and characterization of bacteria from primary samples, including wastewater and stool specimens.

Additionally, the incumbent will assist with general laboratory responsibilities including specimen freezer inventory, ordering/receiving of supplies and laboratory organization.

This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center’s mission in the New York State Department of Health’s efforts to protect and promote the health of New York’s citizens. Come be a part of Science in the Pursuit of Health®!

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or a related field.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Laboratory experience with bacterial samples, including bacterial culture and/or molecular testing. Experience with Microsoft Office.

 

Conditions of Employment
Grant funded, hourly position expected to last through 06/03/2024. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position. Therefore, the incumbent in this position may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment including but not limited to a lab coat, gloves, and safety glasses.


This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will not be available.
