Plant Electrician - Hydro - Req 5198

This applicant pool may be used to fill additional openings within 120 days of the posting close date.

As a Plant Electrician you will Install, test, maintain, and service all electrical circuits, pneumatic systems, and equipment inside of the buildings at Thomson and other stations and on dam premises including all adjacent structures and switchyards. Inspects switchyards and reports general condition of plant property.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain, install, program, test, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Computers (PLCs).
  • Maintain, install, test, and troubleshoot electrical systems inside hydro facilities and outside on the dams. 
  • Trace electrical circuits on schematics and read electrical prints, perform redlines and field markups as necessary.  Communicate changes to engineering.
  • Maintain an organized supply of spare electrical parts and tools.
  • Responsible for documentation, record retention and organization of drawings and work performed.
  • Perform or supervise switching as directed by System Operators at all hydro stations and switchyards.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills required to establish and maintain positive working relationships.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent PLUS
  • Four year electrical apprenticeship AND two years practical experience

OR

  • Two year Electrical Technology degree AND four years practical experience

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate within 3 months of hire (a Class A Commercial Driver's License may be required in the future).
  • Must have PLC programming experience.
  • Must have a working knowledge of electricity, generators, motors, transformers, relay, meters, cathodic protection, and other electronic equipment.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
  • This position will report regularly to Carlton, MN.
