Assurance and Consulting Intern (PT) - Retirement Plan Services and Employee Benefit Plan Audit

PBMares Retirement Plan Services (RPS) consulting group is looking for an assurance and consulting intern to join our Norfolk team. This is an internship for a university student to be part of a collaborative team and receive mentoring from all experienced team members including the partners. RPS is a specialized niche that provides third-party administration services for over 800 plans. We work directly with the owners and leaders of companies to provide plan design consulting, annual administration, and compliance work. In addition, we specialize in auditing retirement plans that are required to have an annual audit by the Department of Labor.
An ideal candidate would be a current Junior or Senior with a major in Accounting that has a high level of attention to detail, wants to have a specialty and wants to be a member of a team where their contribution will be valued.

What you will do:
- Gain a working knowledge of the various retirement plan types and basic compliance rules.
- Assist in the preparation of annual plan administration for clients’ retirement plans, including plan reconciliations and Form 5500 preparation.
- Develop an understanding of various employer contribution allocations /calculations and non-discrimination testing.
- Learn to address administrative issues regarding ongoing plan administration.
- Development of skills with retirement plan administration software, related software, and investment platforms.
- In addition to the RPS job duties, assist with planning and performing retirement plan audits.
- Perform the detail work of audits.
- Collect and analyze data to detect control deficiency or non-compliance with laws, regulations, or management policies.
- Assist drafting the financial statements for the Plan.
- Work independently to meet deadlines, while also effectively integrating into a team environment.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor reflective of the firm and demonstrate effective organizational skills.
- Perform other retirement plan administration related job duties.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
What we require:
- Current college/university student with a major in Accounting or related field
- Will be eligible with 120 credit hours and planning to sit for the CPA exam upon graduation.
- GPA of at least 3.0
- Able to work an average of 20 hours per week (flexible around class schedules)
