2024 Metcalf, Communications and Programs Summer Intern

Fellowship Award Amount: Up to 4,000 Summer

Internship Time Commitment: Up to 40 hours per week during the summer

Reading Between the Lines (RBL) is a non-profit organization that supports justice-impacted individuals through reentry programming. We have developed a unique program that facilitates spaces for exercising and refining soft skills - critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills by engaging text. As a result, RBL is positioned to hone these highly desirable soft skills for employers. Our mission is to ensure that justice-impacted individuals gain valuable experiences essential to their success in the workforce and beyond.


About The Internship:
Reading Between the Lines is seeking a Communications and Programs intern for Summer 2024. The Communications and Programs intern will work closely with the Program Coordinator and Operations Manager to support communication strategies, with a primary focus on maintaining our social media presence. The intern will produce and post online content, expand the organization's public profile, build our audience and brand on social media, intern will assist with reviewing and provide feedback on website design. Additionally, the intern will assist in curating the reading material selections that take into consideration diverse authors and themes, while providing meaningful opportunities for discussion, interns may also be required or may have the opportunity to attend virtual sessions to provide feedback. The ideal candidate will have experience in creative design, producing graphics, an eye for detail and innovation. 

Responsibilities:
● Maintain social media presence and assist in the design of the organization's website
● Produce and post online content to expand our public profile
● Build our audience and brand on social media
● Curate reading material selections that take into consideration diverse authors and
themes, while providing meaningful opportunities for discussion
 

Requirements:
● Good work ethic and communication skills
● Ability to work independently with a positive attitude
● Excellent creative writing skills and/or some background in journalism, creative writing,
website design, and creating graphics
● Familiarity with racial justice, and/or criminal legal system
● Strong commitment to racial justice, immigrant rights, and civil rights

Time Commitment:
Our internship requires a commitment of at least 15 hours per week. Summer internships are typically a 10-week period, but we are flexible. Reading Between the Lines works under a Hybrid model. RBL expects that staff and interns work remotely but once a week in-person (mostly Wednesday’s). Internship start date is expected to be June 3rd, 2024.
