Job Description:

The CSU NASA Space Grant program is now hiring undergraduate students for internships in summer 2024. The internships will provide stimulating and challenging opportunities to work on hands-on hardware projects. Applying students should have a strong interest in space-related research and solid academic background. We expect to have 2 teams (of ~3 students) build a DemoSat payload that will be launched to the edge of space on a weather balloon. Example payloads are for remote sensing atmospheric pollutants, deploying a landing-rover, or testing for effects of space radiation.  The program and launch are organized by the NASA Colorado Space Grant Consortium, see:

NASA leadership in Boulder, CO will conduct Design Reviews of the project.

The Summer Undergraduate Internships are for an amount up to $7,200 for a full summer (10-week) student effort working 40+ hours per week. This is an in-person (not remote) position that will be based at CSU’s Powerhouse Energy Campus with standard working hours (~8:30-5pm). A maximum of one week of time off will be allowed. Each project team will also have a budget of $1,000. The duration of the intern position will be May 20 – July 26.  A kickoff telecon with be held earlier in May that interns will be required to participate in.  The DemoSat launch is tentatively scheduled for Saturday July 20 and is to be worked as an unpaid day.   (The final week of the internship - from July 22 to July 26 - will be  after the launch and will be spent on data analysis and final report.)

Applications should be submitted by individual students and should include the following:  Cover letter, Resume (CV), CSU transcript (unofficial copy is fine), a project proposal.  The cover letter should discuss related skills and experience. The project proposal should be 1 page in length and should present a candidate project idea for the DemoSat project.  The proposal is partly to gauge your creativity and level of interest and may ultimately not be the project you work on. (A team of students can submit the same project proposal, and request to work together, though we cannot guarantee this.)

Applications are due by Friday March 29, 2024 and should be emailed to:  spacegrantcsu@gmail.com
