Lewiston Housing Authority Volunteer Program Coordinator

Goodwill VISTA Partnership AmeriCorps is a 1 year National Service Opportunity in the State of Maine.

 

Location: Lewiston, ME

Focus Area: Asylum Seeker Support, Community Outreach, Poverty, Youth

 

Created in 1963, Lewiston Housing (LH) is the municipal housing authority for the City of Lewiston. LH is an experienced developer of affordable housing for people with low or moderate income and has used a variety of structures and funding sources, including Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) partnerships, conventional and federal financing, as well as other public and private sources. Mission Statement: It is the mission of the Lewiston Housing Authority to provide dignified, safe, and affordable housing free of discrimination to those eligible persons who are in need of housing assistance and, in so doing, promote economic uplift and personal growth. Currently, Lewiston Housing provides management, maintenance and resident services for 466 units of Public Housing, LIHTC, and market rate housing, and administers approximately 1200 Housing Choice vouchers. In addition, LH facilitates multiple senior and family programs including: 4H, Seniors Plus lunches, WIC, ESL classes, afterschool homework help, and other Youth programming like elementary art, cooking, and science learning. Lewiston Housing is a perennial High Performer per HUD’s operational performance standards. The VISTA member will: Increase Volunteer engagement in the on-site programs; Increase resident engagement in Programs and as Volunteers; and Build Capacity to Off-Set the Costs of Running the Programs.

The VISTA Member will: Expand programming options and long-term program sustainability on-site at Lewiston Housing residential sites; Promote economic uplift and personal growth among residents at the LH properties; Evaluate and Increase Volunteer engagement in the programs; Increase resident engagement in Programs and as Volunteers; and Build Capacity to Off-Set the Costs of Running the Programs.
