Seymour Osman Community Center Student Support Specialist

Granite State Education Corps is a 1 year National Service Opportunity in the State of New Hampshire.

Location: Dover, NH

Focus Area: Youth

Located in the heart of the Dover Housing Authority community, the Seymour Osman Community Center (SOCC) serves as a safe haven for the neighborhood’s children. Our mission is to provide youth and families with a better chance at competing in life by offering academic support, parental support, and life experiences. The SOCC flagship programs operate during the afterschool and out of school time hours focusing on assisting youth with academics, and offering new experiences and opportunities through enrichment programs and field trips. In addition, the SOCC plays a key role in organizing events and activities throughout the year that engage parents in their children’s learning and benefit the Dover Housing Authority neighborhood as well as the greater Dover community.

AmeriCorps members will design and facilitate engaging enrichment programs that will keep students who are old enough to go home alone afterschool wanting to attend the program. Members will also support students with problem solving skills and conflict resolution for challenges that arise in program and that they bring to program from home and school. Members will also support community wide programming including clothing closet, food pantry, and community meals. The SOCC is seeking two AmeriCorps members to serve with the SOCC’s K-12 students. Successful candidates are energetic role models who enjoy working with youth and having fun while at work. Successful candidates will also build relationships with their assigned group of students and help them to design and engage in their afterschool programming, including planning and facilitating engaging enrichment programs based on youth interests and areas of academic weakness and strength.
