My Place Teen Center Student Support Specialist

Public Health AmeriCorps Youth Development is a 1 year National Service Opportunity in the State of Maine.

Location: Westbrook or Biddeford, ME

Focus Area: Poverty, Public Health, Youth

My Place Teen Center, nestled in a renovated church on Main Street in Westbrook with additional locations in Saco and soon-to-be in Biddeford, is not just a place but a lifeline for at-risk teens. With an unwavering commitment to nurturing, inspiring, and safeguarding these youth, many of whom have nowhere else to turn, we provide a haven where kids are not only kept safe and fed but also loved and guided toward a more positive path.

As a year-round, free, out-of-school time program open to youth aged 10-18 from any locale, we place a strong emphasis on building meaningful, trusting relationships with our teens. We are seeking individuals who share our passion for making a difference and are eager to join us in a creative environment where lives are transformed.

Our members play a crucial role in empowering teens with the resources and life skills needed for a successful adult life. Serving as role models, they actively engage in recruiting youth for activities, provide on-site mentorship, assist teens with practical skills like using MPTC store/debit and credit checkbooks, and offer valuable homework help. We value hands-on involvement over mere oversight!

Members at My Place Teen Center take the lead in facilitating a variety of impactful programs, including the Restaurant Job Training Program (RJTP), Making Proud Choices, Adulting 101, Getting Urban Kids Outside (GUKO), and our Youth Leadership Academy (YLA), covering Social Emotional learning, Health and Wellness, Workforce Readiness, Civic Engagement, and STEAM. Additionally, members play a key role in coordinating free field trips, providing enriching experiences for our teens.

Join us at My Place Teen Center—a welcoming and embracing space for each unique teen. For some, this is not just a place; it’s home. Here, they receive more than a meal; they find homework help, support, and the encouragement needed to face the daily challenges of their lives. Be a part of our mission and make a lasting impact in the lives of these incredible young individuals.
