Electrical Engineering/GIS Technician
Function:
To perform electrical engineering functions for a municipal electric utility, and to work in conjunction with other department personnel in constructing and maintaining an electric distribution system. This position will also assist with the development, expansion, and maintenance of a geographic information system (GIS) and related applications for a municipal electric and water utility, and to work in conjunction with other department personnel in supporting an electric distribution system.
Duties:
- Assist with general distribution system inspections.
- Pole Testing –utilize GIS information to test the poles based on priorities.
- Use inferred camera for preventative maintenance to identify and loose connections or hot spots to energized lines.
- Assist in collection of data, updating and editing of GIS map and related databases
- Perform field collection of GPS data
- System inspections: Inspect all transformers/pads, inspect meter seals, double pole locations, other general inspections.
- Photograph all poles, transformers, junctions, etc. and upload to GIS map.
- Assist operations department with outage notifications.
Qualifications:
- Ideal candidate will be enrolled in a technical program such as engineering, GIS or other science related fields
- Must be comfortable working in an office setting along with outdoors for required data collection.
- Valid Class D Massachusetts driving license or equivalent.
