The Internship
Group Black is seeking our next talented and innovative group of students for our Summer Internship Program for June 2024. The paid internship will offer an exciting 11-week development opportunity with our growing media start-up. Students will be an important part of a fast-paced, cross-functional team, supporting our KPIs.
We are looking for collaborative and creative interns who are eager to learn about Group Black and the dynamic Media industry. Reporting directly to a member of the leadership team, you will gain both experience and exposure to our Group Black partners and media strategies. There is a great deal of responsibility, but also an abundance of training and mentorship throughout your time with us.
Summer Internship dates: June 3, 2024 - August 16, 2024. All candidates must be willing to work 40 hours/week, Monday - Friday, with their assigned department. Students are chosen from all majors, from freshmen through graduate students. The ideal candidate will have intellectual curiosity and will be interested in helping our company grow!
As a PR/Communications Summer Intern, you will help build media lists, follow industry news updates, general research, press release drafts, and awards tracking. You'll have the opportunity to engage in key projects aimed at enhancing Group Black’s namesake and reputation, fostering positive relationships with stakeholders, and effectively communicating its messages.
Your Day-to-Day:
- You will work on high-visibility projects, focused on key initiatives within the Public Relations/Communications department.
- Own and oversee follow-up items designated by your internship supervisor.
- Assist in creating content for press releases, blog posts, social media posts, and other communication channels.
- Conduct research and interviews to gather information for content development.
- Ensure content aligns with the organization's messaging and branding guidelines.
- Assist in assessing current business and applying lessons learned to enhance future opportunities.
- Attend meetings and take/distribute notes and other administrative tasks. For example, creating and maintaining documents, presentations, and other assets that apply to your role.
- Perform research, ad-hoc tasks, and special projects.
- Learn and utilize different software, programs, and systems.
Key Projects:
- Your example intern deliverables may include press releases, media kits, brand strategy presentations, Group Black member and partner (Essence, Pod Digital Media, Reach TV, She Media) research, Marketing events coordination, and social media management.
- Monitor media outlets, including traditional and online sources, for coverage related to the organization.
- Assess media coverage to identify trends, sentiment, and areas for improvement.
- Create reports summarizing media mentions and their impact on the organization's reputation.
- Research industry trends, competitor activities, and best practices in PR and communication.
- Assist in evaluating market data to identify opportunities for positioning Group Black effectively.
- At the end of the internship, you will present your learning and development experience to the leadership team.
What you bring to the team:
- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, growing, and changing environment.
- Comprehension of collaborative tools (Slack & G-Suite).
- Microsoft Suite of products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Strong analytical and solution-finding experience.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and administrative know-how.
- Well-versed in social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
- Passion for media and entertainment.
- Previous internship experience and on-campus involvement are a plus.
At Group Black we believe in leveraging our hiring process as a way to support transparency. As an undergraduate student, the hourly rate band for this opportunity is ($18-$20/hr). As a graduate student, the hourly rate band for this opportunity is ($20-$25/hr). Our job offer compensation philosophy, which impacts actual compensation, is based on a number of important factors including, but not limited to, internal and market equity, financial budgets, and the individual’s skills, qualifications, experience, and education. Published annual base salary bands do not include individual variable compensation opportunities, such as annual merit increases, bonus eligibility, commission, or equity incentives.
