Human Rights/Human Trafficking Paralegal

Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll PLLC is one of the country’s premier law firms for complex litigation on behalf of plaintiffs. With more than 100 attorneys and eight offices, we are involved in groundbreaking and high-stakes litigation concerning antitrust violations, securities fraud, civil rights and employment claims, consumer protection, employee benefits, whistle blower cases, international human rights, catastrophic injury, and matters representing state attorneys general in civil law enforcement investigations and litigation.

Cohen Milstein’s Washington, DC office seeks a paralegal/research assistant to support attorneys in the Human Rights Practice Group.  The Human Rights/Human Trafficking Group represents victims of torture, forced labor, human trafficking, and other violations of international law. We welcome all interested candidates, including recent college graduates.  We are looking for someone to be part of a small, collaborative team.  The ideal candidate will have some experience or interest in international human rights, forced labor or human trafficking work; some experience or interest in working with survivors and witnesses; and be able to work independently. The work involves, among other things, factual and legal research; writing memoranda; organizing documents; managing case files; and performing clerical tasks associated with filing documents in U.S. courts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong writing and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with legal research tools, such as Lexis/Nexis or Westlaw is a plus.
  • Foreign language skills are also a plus.


Schedule:

Full Time: 35-hour work week – Typically Monday through Friday; 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility for overtime as needed. This position offers a hybrid work schedule with up to three remote days per week.  

We offer a competitive salary, excellent benefits, and a wonderful work environment. The expected hourly rate (excluding bonus) is $27.45 - $32.95.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors. Preference will be given to candidates who will make a two-year minimum commitment to the position.
