Job Description:  Program Assistant

 

The mission of the MLK Center is to educate youth, empower families, and build community through quality multi-generational programs that advocate for our neighbors, promote racial justice, and provide a peaceful space to connect. We are seeking an Intake Specialist to serve as our front-line, first point of contact for the community, and work across all teams serving youth ages 0-24 and their families. This position also coordinates the Midtown-Get-Around project, our neighborhood micro-transit program that provides low-cost rides to essential locations like work, school, medical appointments, laundromat, pharmacy, and grocery stores. This position reports to the Community Resources Director.

 

As the Intake Specialist, a typical day might include the following: 

Reception and Intake 

  • Greet guests arriving for an appointment or asking about a service
  • Assist neighbors in completing the MLK Center intake form
  • Answer phone calls from neighbors in crisis who live outside our neighborhood, and connect them to resources in their area
  • Manage the intake form database to assign new applicants to your teammates
  • Listen to voicemail messages and route calls to other team members
  • Copy a neighbor’s bill to make an emergency utility assistance payment
  • Provide a receipt to a parent paying for after school fees

 

Midtown-Get-Around Coordination

  • Recruit riders from a local apartment building
  • Enroll new riders into our data management system
  • Assist the Community Resources Director in preparing ride data reports
  • Drive a neighbor to the grocery store when a driver goes home sick
  • Schedule a van for routine maintenance

  • You believe in the nonviolence principles of Dr. King. Training is required.
