Instructor of Mathematics (Fall 2024)
ABOUT MATHEMATICS AT GENESEE COMMUNITY COLLEGE:
Genesee Community College's Mathematics Department strives to prepare the foundations needed for multiple academic pathways. Students experience academic coursework that delves into preparation for everything from current programs of study to further academic goals beyond GCC.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Teach courses in Mathematics. Provide leadership in the development, review, assessment, and maintenance of the mathematics curriculum. Assist in recruitment, retention, and graduation of students and in other college and departmental efforts. Participate actively in the academic life of the institution.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach mathematics courses such as, but not limited to remedial Arithmetic, Algebra & Trigonometry, Survey of mathematics, Statistics, and Technical mathematics at the Batavia campus, campus centers, in our concurrent enrollment programs, and/or in a distant learning format as needed. Be able to use computer applications and a variety of teaching strategies and alternative modes of instruction.
Along with the other mathematics faculty, provide leadership in the review, development, assessment and maintenance of quality mathematics curricula which includes the mentoring of adjunct faculty.
Regularly assess student learning, calculate and maintain grades in keeping with college and departmental guidelines, maintain and report attendance as required by the college.
Actively participate in the selection and mentoring of adjunct faculty and reviewing syllabi for all locations.
Actively participate in course and general education assessment activities.
Assist in recruitment, retention, advisement and graduation of math/science students.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
A Master's degree in Mathematics or related field requiring at least 18 graduate hours in mathematics. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for teaching and learning, adaptability, a positive attitude and a willingness to embrace evolving technologies. This person will strive to create and maintain personal connections with students and the college community. The individual must be an approachable, enthusiastic team player with a strong work ethic that contributes to Genesee's supportive community, dedicated to effective innovative strategies for student success. They must demonstrate a commitment to the campus values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Incumbent must be mindful of and develops accessibility solutions that can accommodate all individuals to use GCC facilities without barriers, both digitally and physically.
Preferred
Two years of related work and/or college teaching experience is preferred. Community college teaching experience preferred. Familiarity with computer-assisted/multimedia instruction and distance learning (such as ZOOM, Microsoft Teams, and Brightspace) is preferred. Preparation to teach online preferred.
Additional Information:
RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports to the Director of Mathematics. The faculty member works cooperatively with full-time and adjunct faculty and staff. Position will begin Fall Semester 2024.
SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a full-time position at 35 hours per week and is compensated at a rate of $49,867.89 annually. Salary, benefits, and conditions of employment are as set by the GEA contract.
