Intern - Accounting
Job Summary
The Accounting Intern works closely with the accounting team to assist in projects and special assignments as needed for up to a 9-month period. This position is responsible for the development and execution of actuals and forecasting, assisting the company leaders with monthly statistics, financial information, and developing monthly forecast to fulfill both internal and external requirements.

Essential Functions
Key Duties/Responsibilities/Accountabilities
- Under direct supervision, learns and prepares financial forecasts and reporting information (which may include cash flow status and HIGLAS reporting) for Board of Directors, Executives, Cash Committee, and External Customers
- Assists in the preparation and finalization of financial deliverables for government contracts and responds directly to questions or requests for more information regarding deliverables
- Ensures all data and reports are documented and retained for audit purposes
- Accommodates for unexpected new assignments that are time sensitive by multi-tasking
- Completes and maintains reporting to be viewed by upper level management
- Learns and monitors cash transactions from bank to book, prepares and reviews complex monthly bank reconciliations, creates and maintains spreadsheets of deposit and EFT/check activity, and researches any variances
- Must be able to follow procedures and instructions given by leadership and be flexible in assignment changes
- Participates in training activities as assigned
- May assist department in administrative tasks
- May assist department in special projects, tasks, or duties
- Contributes to the organization's operations and processes while obtaining firsthand experience that aligns with the mission, vision, and values of the organization
- Provides excellent customer service

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Working towards a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field as determined by HR
- Knowledge of accounting principles
- Effective communication skills
- Interpersonal skills
- Strong problem solving, leadership, and analytical skills
- Possesses knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Possesses an interest in pursuing continued education (e.g. Master's degree)
Preferred Qualifications
Above requirements and the following:
- Three months' or more work experience in Accounting, Finance, or a related field as determined by HR
- Knowledge of HIGLAS
Environment and Cognitive/Physical Demands
- Office Environment
- Ability to read, hear, speak, keyboard, reason, communicate effectively and problem solve
- Requires prolonged sitting and telephone use
- Requires the use of office equipment such as computer terminals, telephones, copiers and printers
- Infrequent lifting to 15 pounds
- Infrequent stooping

Below is the salary range for potential new hires.
Salary Range: $17.20 – $20.60
Other Compensation: Self-Managed PTO (if applicable), Incentive Plan
Lifestyle Benefit: $50/month
This is a full-time internship May 2024 - September/October 2024. The hours are M-F 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Central Time.
