Marketing Strategy & Alliances Intern (Hybrid - DC, MD, VA ONLY)

CareFirst runs a year-round internship program. The ideal candidate is someone who can work throughout the year at least 20 hours in the Fall/Spring during regular business hours (M-F 8-5PM) and 40 hours in the Summer.

The Market Strategy & Alliances Team is responsible for researching, developing, and implementing products, partners and strategies to support growth and sustainability in the commercial self-funded business. We are also responsible for financial and strategic management of key initiatives and external partnerships that directly support the needs of the market. Team members are expected to provide leadership, support, and valuable participation on cross-functional strategic initiatives by serving as subject matter experts, liaisons for the division, strong communicators, and strategic thinkers focused on innovation and excellence.

Key Activities

  • Support team members and leadership team in key projects.
  • Business analysis support.
  • Product design and go-to-market support.
  • Support for vendor partnerships and alliances.
  • Support established Vertical Markets & development of additional vertical markets.
  • Process Mapping.
  • Competitive Intelligence Gathering.
  • Market analysis and collaboration with other Blues Plans.
  • Strategy Development and Business Case development.
  • Strategic oversight of new solutions including RFP requirements, vendor selection, solutions implementation, go-to-market strategy, and operational transition planning.
     

The team is seeking a graduate-student intern who is eager to learn about healthcare by exposure to a variety of roles, tasks and projects. The individual should be interested in healthcare, innovation, strategic development and partnership management. Strong problem solving, communication, and project management skills are essential. The individual must also be detail oriented, comfortable asking questions, presenting in group settings with leadership as well have a proactive mindset to jump in and provide support. The ]Market Strategy and Alliances Intern will have the opportunity to apply skills and concepts learned in school within a business environment. This opportunity will allow the intern to develop valuable connections and relationships while working across multiple levels of management within different areas of the organization.

Formulate excel spreadsheets and calculate comparisons for departmental analysis. Assist with development, review and fulfillment of strategic business cases. Create PowerPoint presentations and conduct market research. Support departmental and divisional projects and initiatives.

Qualifications

Education Level: Must be a student working towards a Masters/Graduate degree from an accredited College or University.

Experience: Graduate student targeting majors in Marketing, Finance, Economics and/or Business Administration. Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above.

Required Abilities/Skills
 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work independently to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products, (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook)
  • Ability to interface with and establish/maintain effective working relationships with internal staff/departments.
  • Strong research skills-ability to conduct qualitative independent research and have a desire/interest in healthcare.
