Data Science Intern - Blue Cross of Idaho

Overview

As a multidisciplinary team of actuaries, data scientists, and other analytic professionals, the Analytics Department uses data and analytics to power BCI’s strategic outcomes.     

Opportunity/Project Duties: 

  • The intern will assist the Analytic Innovation team in developing models, algorithms, and data pipelines that will be used to detect fraud, waste, and abuse in our claims data.
  • The intern will be responsible for familiarizing themselves with our data platforms, understanding the business problem, and then developing an algorithm that will be hosted in AWS. They will then present their results to the business for review and incorporate any feedback to improve the algorithm accuracy.

Qualifications: 

  • A strong willingness to learn, self-motivation, and technical prowess (a background coding in Python and SQL would be extremely valuable)     

Skills You Will Develop: 

  • Coding and Cloud Technologies (Python, SQL, Pyspark, Git, AWS), Project Management, Understanding of Health Insurance claims data
