Biomedical Equipment Technician Intern
For a student seeking a degree in a field associated with Computer Science, Security or Management Information Systems, provide the opportunity to have an integrated work experience in the healthcare information technology field, and the opportunity to job shadow various positions of interest as well as work on a variety of Healthcare IT projects.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the biomedical engineering team to follow any required education and learning plan. Work with the team to support equipment throughout the Network. Monitor and observe repair, testing, calibration and maintenance services as required. Provide assistance to other biomedical engineering staff in performing repairs and maintenance to medical equipment. Maintain accurate documentation on all services, test and maintenance provided. As skill and education allow perform electrical safety, preventive maintenance and function test on various medical devices to department and manufacturer protocols as requested. As skill and education allow repair defective medical and other devices to meet or exceed required specifications. Participate in staff in-service educational programs and meetings as required. Assist in pre-purchase evaluations. Assist with research and technical consultation. Assist in evaluating equipment failures to identify any trends, design and or user problems. Assist with installations of medical and other devices and systems. Assist in minimizing turn-around or down-time on equipment. Work with the biomedical engineering team to complete any service at the minimum possible cost, while maintaining the highest level of quality. Assist with any product / equipment recalls and or alerts. Read, review and understand items related to the Joint Commission accreditation and other regulatory requirements.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Requires sitting for up to 7 hours per day, 2 hours at a time. Frequently uses fingers for typing, data entry, etc. Frequent use of hands. Extensively uses mouse as a computer entry device. Uses upper extremities to rarely lift up to 10 pounds. Occasionally stoops, bends or reaches shoulder level. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation. Seeing as it relates to general vision, near vision, peripheral vision and visual monotony. Spends considerable time viewing computer screen.
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma required. Must either be a graduate or be enrolled in an associate’s or bachelor’s degree program in Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Technology or other related field.
