The Division of Engineering Services (DES), Structure Construction (SC), is recruiting to fill Transportation Engineer (TE) (Civil) positions. Structure Construction is a Statewide subdivision. Positions are available for project locations across California in the following counties: Alameda, Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, Contra Costa, Del Norte, El Dorado, Fresno, Glenn, Humboldt, Imperial, Inyo, Kern, Kings, Lake, Lassen, Los Angeles, Madera, Marin, Mariposa, Mendocino, Merced, Modoc, Mono, Monterey, Napa, Nevada, Orange, Placer, Plumas, Riverside, Sacramento, San Benito, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Francisco, San Joaquin, San Luis Obispo, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Tulare, Tuolumne, Ventura, Yolo, Yuba.

 

Under the direction of a Senior Bridge Engineer (Supervisor) in Structure Construction (SC), Division of Engineering Services (DES), the TE (Civil) classification is the entry, working and journeyman level of professional engineering work in Caltrans. The incumbent performs a wide variety of professional engineering work in either an office or field setting; as incumbents progress in experience, they will be assigned more difficult work. This work is performed on highway construction projects involving bridges, buildings, walls, barriers, drainage structures, sign structures and appurtenances. The incumbent works as a field engineer to ensure contractors build structures in compliance with the contract documents (Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, contract plans and Special Provisions). May act as an Assistant Structure Representative or Assistant Resident Engineer/Resident Engineer on construction projects.
